During our recent warehouse move, we uncovered a small number of original copies of the orange Special Edition of Japanese Flora.
These are not reprints. They are original archive copies from the hand-numbered edition of 1,000 that had been set aside in storage.
Only a handful are available. Once these copies are gone, we do not expect more to become available.
Tattoos, like flowers, flourish organically — because that is how art evolves over time.
Sören Sangkuhl’s bestselling Japanese Flora was originally released in 2018 as an in-depth exploration of flowers used throughout Japanese tattooing, including cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums, lotus flowers and peonies.
The book looks not only at the beauty of these plants, but also at their natural variation — no two flowers are ever completely alike.
Following the success of the first and second editions, Sören returned to the project with this third Special Edition. It adds 40 exclusive new pages to the original material, bringing the book to 148 pages and expanding the visual reference considerably.
The book is produced as a large-format hardcover with a box case and printed on 150 gr. Munken Pure paper. The edition was limited to 1,000 copies, each hand-numbered by the artist.
Sören has specialised in traditional Japanese design for many years, and this expanded edition brings together his precise linework, botanical study and distinctive approach to Japanese visual language.
